Northwest Community Church
Northwest Community Church (NWCC) was founded on October 25, 1987, by Pastor Nathan J. Cooper Sr., along with First Lady Carolyn Cooper and their children, Stephanie, Shenelle, and Nathan Jr. The church began on Donna Street, with the Carrera family joining soon after in November 1987. As NWCC grew, more families like the Richardsons, Brooks, and Tillys united in 1988.
History
In 1990, Pastor Cooper had a vision to find a permanent home for the church. After acquiring the property, it was consecrated and offered back to God. Many visitors have remarked that they felt a special presence when arriving at NWCC, often leading them to worship with the congregation.
During a challenging transition, services were held at the Greenspoint Marriott for three months. Despite losing members, NWCC pressed forward with faith. Pastor Cooper led the church to its first building, which later became Picket Fences Learning Center. Even when there was no water, gas, or electricity, services were held under the trees, with the congregation continuing to pray and seek God's direction.
Over the years, NWCC has grown into a vibrant community with various ministries, including adult and youth choirs, an usher board, brotherhood and sisterhood groups, a drama department, and a growing Sunday School. The church has welcomed many ministers, deacons, and families who have contributed to its mission.
In 1999, NWCC launched the Capital Building Fund Campaign, adding pews to the sanctuary and providing a pastor's study and finance room. Though the church mourned the loss of Rev. Lewis McQuarter Sr., it continues to thrive.
NWCC supports the community through programs like the Angel Tree and Prison Outreach Programs, and Picket Fences Learning Center assists single parents. Pastor Cooper, known for his humbleness and dedication, continues to preach and teach from the Bible, guiding the church toward winning souls for Christ and striving for greater things.
